Mehriban Aliyeva meets with Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II

Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, met with Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, November 6.

Warmly welcoming the guest Mrs Aliyeva briefed him of Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s action.

She mentioned the Foundation is going to implement in Georgia several projects envisaging construction of new educational centers.

Valuing Azerbaijan as an exemplary country from standpoint of tolerance Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized people of different religions have friendly lived in Azerbaijan throughout centuries. In Azerbaijan people are not subject to religious, language, national and racial discrimination and this is the attitude of both people and state of Azerbaijan to other religions and nations. 

Within the ‘Azerbaijan – Address of Tolerance’ project the Foundation is closely involved in reconstruction and capital repair of a number of temples, has reconstructed this year a mosque in Georgia.

Saying he is aware of projects realized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II expressed delight for implementation of such works in Georgia too.

In the end of the meeting he presented a keepsake to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva.
