A meeting with UN’s newly appointed resident coordinator and permanent representative of UN Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan Antonius Broek

Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva met with UN’s newly appointed resident coordinator and permanent representative of UN Development Program (UNDP) Antonius Broek, February 11.


Mehriban Aliyeva noted that the cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and UNDP started back in 2005. Saying a number of projects have been implemented so far, Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized that the biggest of them was the project “Provision of access for blind and visually disabled people to information and communication technologies”, and within the project,  ICT centres were constructed both in Baku and regions for this kind of people.


Talking also of other projects, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation mentioned, among them, the works done towards protection of the environment, and culture. Azerbaijan’s First Lady expressed a hope that works in this direction will be extended in future.


Antonius Broek said they were open to proposals aimed to continue such projects. He congratulated Azerbaijan’s First Lady on the launching of Azerbaijan’s first telecommunication satellite into the orbit, and said this was great success.


At the meeting, discussions were held towards continuing projects associated with physically disabled people by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and UNDP, and extension of works aimed at protection of the environment and information and communication technologies in Azerbaijan in 2013 was offered.
