Mehriban Aliyeva meets President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher

Azerbaijan’s First Lady, head of the Azerbaijan-France Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly (Milli Majlis) Mehriban Aliyeva met with President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher, December 4.


Gerard Larcher expressed his pleasure of meeting Mehriban Aliyeva, brought to attention the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and France in various spheres, and emphasized the significance of interparliamentary relationsin the development of cooperation.


Gerard Larcher highly appreciated Mehriban Aliyeva’s contributions to the development of relations with France, both as the head of the Azerbaijan-France Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly and also as President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

 

Gerard Larcher underscored that, as one of the co-chair countries of the Minsk Group, France is ready to contribute to solution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlyg Garabagh conflict.

 

Mehriban Aliyeva talked about the rapidly developing relations between Azerbaijan and France in political, economic, cultural and other spheres, and said that relations between the two countries in the economic field are developing with high pace. The First Lady noted over 50 French companies operating in Azerbaijan, implementation of a number of humanitarian projects, and said such projects will be continued further.

 

Underscoring the special importance of the interparliamentary relations, Mehriban Aliyeva said she was ready, as the head of the Azerbaijan-France Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly,  to make contributions to developing the France-Azerbaijan relations further. Mehriban Aliyeva said Azerbaijan supported restoration of peace and stability in the region.

 

Mehriban Aliyeva also talked about the existing relations between France and Azerbaijan in the spheres of culture, preservation of cultural heritage, as well as in humanitarian field, and noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has implemented a number of projects in this area. The First Lady mentioned that the first European Games will be held in Azerbaijan in 2015, talked about high-level preparation works  carried out in the country, and said that presentation of these Games have been held in a number of countries, including France.


Mehriban Aliyeva invited Gerard Larcher to visit Azerbaijan, and to the inauguration of the European Games.
