A dinner was given on behalf of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in honour of the guests participating in the “Fly to Baku” exhibition in Paris, April 11.

Minister of Culture and Communication of France Frederique Mitterrand and First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva delivered a speech at the dinner.

Speech by Frederique Mitterrand:

- Dear Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva!

Dear Gentlemen!

Respectable Senate Members! Dear Friends!

Mrs. Aliyeva, let me welcome you here with my short speech. I would like to note that your daughter, who has played a special role in organization of the exhibition being held this evening, is also here. In your person, we see a prominent person of the cultural life of Azerbaijan, a friend of our country.

The “Plaisirs de France” Exhibition held in Azerbaijan is of special importance for us. We know that you have greatly contributed to this work. Moreover, the Museum of Modern Art in Baku also is very active in organization of cultural events. We know that a new building is being constructed for the Carpet Museum. We are sure it will become one of the world’s most beautiful carpet museums.

The primary objective of the “Fly to Baku” Exhibition being held today is to demonstrate works created by a new generation of young artists. This exhibition has been organized for the Paris society showing special interest to an art distinguished for its originality. I would like to thank you on behalf of my colleagues and the Government of France for your initiative and support to the organization of the exhibition.

Dear Mrs. Aliyeva, I’m very delighted to see you this evening here with us. Our singer Patricia Kaas and museum workers of France are with us this evening. I see here chairman of the French Museums Council Mr. Krutsel. He has played a special role in organization of the “Plaisirs de France” Exhibition held in Baku. I would like to specifically mention the participation of Phillippe Costamagna here. As you know, he was the steward of the exhibition we held in Baku. That exhibition was very successful. And this evening we can already talk about the success of the exhibition we inaugurated in Paris.

Dear Mrs. Aliyeva! You have participated in all the events held by us. I would like to thank you once more for being with us today, and I’m very pleased. Thank you.

Speech by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva:

- Dear Mister Minister!

Esteemed Guests!

First of all, I would like to greet all of you this evening and thank you for being here with us.

Mister Minister, I would like to specifically thank you for the pleasant words you said here about my activity and Azerbaijan.

Indeed, holding such an exhibition in Paris, the capital of France, today is a great event in the cultural life of France, as Paris is the capital of not only France, but also of the world culture. This exhibition was first opened in London. Today it is shown in Paris. It will then be shown in capitals of other countries of the world. I would like to deeply thank all who have contributed to the organization of the exhibition. I would like to thank you on behalf of our young and really talented artists. I’m sure this exhibition will more comprehensively promote the rich culture and cultural heritage of our country in France, as the primary objective of our activity is to promote Azerbaijan and its rich culture and history.

Today the exhibition was inaugurated. This exhibition will go on for two weeks in France, and I’m sure it will arouse great interest.

I would like to once more thank you all for your hospitality, your attention, and express my respect and love for your country.

I’d like to take the opportunity to invite all of you to Azerbaijan. Thank you very much.
