Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the first exhibition of Christie’s Auction in Baku

World’s famous Christie’s  Auction organized, on September 15, together with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and YARAT Modern  Art Space, its first exhibition in Azerbaijan in a grandiose hall of the newly inaugurated Four Seasons Hotel in Baku. First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended the ceremony.


Various pieces of art, items and exhibits chosen for autumn sales to be held by Christie’s in London, New York and Dubai are demonstrated at the exhibition. These exhibits include works related to the Impressionist period, the period after the World War 2nd, and modern art works, as well as Eastern carpets, and modern pieces of art from the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Turkey. Works by world-renown artists are exhibited at this exhibition. The exhibition also features a pearl of art created by world-renown Pablo Picasso. Pablo Picasso painted this work in 1962.  The work was evaluated 5 to 7 million US Dollars. Along with this work, a Garabagh carpet related to the 18th century included in Christie’s collection is also exhibited here.

The First Lady of Azerbaijan wrote her sincere words in the Guests’ Book of the exhibition.

 

It was informed at the opening ceremony that this exhibition was opened with organization support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the largest non-government and non-commercial organization of Azerbaijan. Delivering a speech at the ceremony, founder of YARAT non-commercial organization Aida Mahmudova talked of projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation towards promotion of the Azerbaijani culture and art. Thanking President of the Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and her team for this support, Aida Mahmudova said: “We take proud in organizing this event together with Christie’s. In my mind, this event will open a significant page in terms of representing Azerbaijan in the international art world. The people of Azerbaijan has rich heritage and art works, and we intend to promote this reality. Therefore, we express our deep gratitude to Christie’s Auction for its contribution to the organization of such a grandiose exhibition. Being the YARAT organization, we intend to build as more relations to contribute to the dialogue between the Azerbaijani modern art workers and art workers of the world as possible”.

 

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, chairman of the Christie’s Auction David Linley expressed gratitude with his participation in such an event in capital Baku and thanked First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for supporting realization of such an event in a country with rich cultural traditions. David Linley noted that at Christie’s exhibition to be held next year in London, Azerbaijan’s modern art pieces will be exhibited.

 

Then a trailer about Christie’s activity was demonstrated. World’s leading art and business organization Christie’s has a 250-year history. 53 offices and 10 sales shows of this organization have been functioning in 32 countries around the globe.

 

The ceremony was followed by an interesting music program.
