Opening of an “Azerbaijani Camp” in Paris

An “Azerbaijani Camp” was organized, September 19, by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on Saint Sulpice Square of Paris.

Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the ceremony:

- Dear Mister Mayor!

Respected members of the Friends of Azerbaijan Association!

Dear guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen!

I welcome everyone of you to the inauguration of the “Azerbaijani Camp” on Saint Sulpice Square, one of the most beautiful corners of Paris, located in the heart of the capital.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to preparation and holding of this project, which serves to promoting Azerbaijan, its history, art and culture, in particular mayor of the 6th  district of Paris Mister Jean-Pierre Locoq and his team.

Projects being implemented in France play a significant part in promotion of Azerbaijan’s history, culture and art.

Azerbaijan attaches very significant importance to bilateral relations with France. I’m very glad recent years these relations have turned into a strategic cooperation. Business relations are built and developed between state structures,  business sectors and public organizations.

Partnership relations have been built between Azerbaijan and France in a number  of areas, in particular business relations have been created in the fields of town-building, cosmos, wine production etc., and year-by-year these relations are developing further.

Azerbaijan is the biggest trade partner of France in the South Caucasus. Trade turnover between our countries has reached two billion US Dollars. Over fifty French companies are operating in Azerbaijan.

Of course, humanitarian and cultural relations between us play a significant part in strengthening the relations between our peoples and countries. I’m very glad many projects have been implemented recent years in this sphere. I would like to cite one example. Before coming to Paris, on September 15, I participated, together with the Head of the State, in the inauguration of the first French Lycée in Baku built for the funds of the Azerbaijani State, and I’m very glad this modern education institution has opened its doors to first pupils.

And in France, we have been traditionally holding events promoting the culture of Azerbaijan, and it is gratifying that  events promoting Azerbaijan’s culture held in regions of France too, besides Paris, are welcomed with great interest. I’m very glad, due to our joint efforts, number of friends of Azerbaijan in France are increasing year-by-year. We welcome the Friends of Azerbaijan Association, which has recently restored its operation in France, and wish them every success.

Dear friends, during these ten days, in the “Azerbaijani Camp”, you will be given comprehensive information about Azerbaijan’s past, present and future, Azerbaijan’s history, culture, art and music. At the same time, we tried to prepare a rich cultural programme. Traditional and classic music, jazz concerts, performances of various dance groups will be presented to you. I’m hopeful this project too will  be another  traditional bridge between souls.

At the end, I would like to note that  part of this exhibition-fair is devoted to the European Games to be held next year in our country. This is a very significant event both for our country and the sports movement in Europe. Today, all actions are taken in Azerbaijan and I’m hopeful the Games will be held in an environment of tranquillity, solidarity and sound competition.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to invite you to our country to watch these historic Games.

Dear friends, thank you for accepting our invitation and being with us this evening.

Have a nice evening.

Thank you!
