Inauguration of the Baku Book Centre created at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative takes place

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the Baku Book Centre, created at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, August 28.


Located at the intersection of the streets Uzeir Hajibeyli and Gogol, the centre’s area is about 2500 square metres. With primary objective to increase interest for reading, the Baku Book Centre will also sell bestsellers of the world literature in Azerbaijani and other languages, as well as rare albums about art, tourist guides, music books, and notes. Books with over 10 thousand names will be presented here. At the centre, readers will have a chance to get publications in Russian, English, German, French, Spanish and Arabic languages, along with Azerbaijani.


While working on the centre’s design, along with enabling book-lovers’ to get various publications, every aspect of having nice free time has been taken into account. Along with book selling, here also functions a cafe called “Coffeemood”. While resting in the cafe, visitors will have a chance to become acquainted with books and magazines available in the centre. Thus, reading a book in front of windows opening to the city landscape, around a tea table would be especially pleasant for book-readers.


Along with various publications, visitors of the Book Centre will have a chance to buy souvenirs of the national brand “I Love Baku” related to Azerbaijan, and products of “Azermarka”.


Information will be given about new books on the monitor installed in the Centre. At the same time, book-lovers can also receive information about the books being sold at the centre on sensory monitors. Here is also a reading hall, and a study corner to engage in scientific activity.


Corners intended for those with poor eyesight, and children, as well as a space to hold presentations of literary and cultural nature will be placed at the disposal of book-lovers.


Here will perdiodically be held various book presentations, meetings with writers, poets, cultural and art figures, as well as master classes. Moreover, holding of reading days to instil interest for reading in children and juveniles, language courses and other events are intended to organize at the centre. A website of the Baku Book Centre will function in three languages, and readers will be able to order books through this website.


At the Baku Book Centre, readers are also presented publications of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on different spheres. Interesting publications of the Foundation in different languages about national leader Heydar Aliyev, our history, culture, art, and eminent persons play a significant role in terms of promoting our country.


Once people showed much interest in books in Azerbaijan, with number of book-lovers being many times more than in other countries. Created at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation headed by Mehriban Aliyeva, the Baku Book Centre will contribute to immortalizing such traditions as reading, which is the primary precondition for increasing intellectual level, receiving knowledge and education, and conveying this tradition to future generations. Inauguration of this centre would, along with restoring interest for books, also increase love for books in children and juveniles, instilling in them habits of reading.


President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva viewed advance copies of historical works -“Iskandername” by Nizami Ganjavi printed in 1941 and “Zakavkazye” by Dubrovin in 1866.


Having become familiarized with the centre, the President and the First Lady wished successes in its operation.
