Thalassemia Center inaugurated in Baku
May 9, Thalassemia Center was inaugurated at Fatali Khan Khoisky Avenue, Narimanov district, Baku.
President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event.

Health minister Ogtay Shiraliyev informed the Center built at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation within the Foundation’s Life without Thalassemia Programme is the hope for those suffering from this disease and their relatives.
Started in 2006 construction of the five-storied facility, total area of which is 7,720 square meters, cost $18 million. Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency equipped the Center with $590-thousand appliances.
External walls of the Center are isolated against heat and cold. Advices of doctors, architects, designers and psychologists were taken into consideration during construction.
Antibacteriologic device has colorful and positive design suitable for age of patients.
Lobby includes Heydar Aliyev Corner, 6-m aquarium.
The first floor is designed for registration, donor center, doctor room, ultrasound examination, secondary rooms and lab equipped with device automatically identifying blood group.
Second floor is polyclinic with chief doctor’s room, 2-segment transfusion hall, 12-room clinic, general lab, manipulation and ray diagnostics rooms.
1280-sq.m third floor includes marrow transplantation surgery room, 5 reanimation wards each for a person, 2 manipulation rooms, sterilization center, molecular diagnostics lab. Special ventilation system was installed to supply reanimation wards and surgery room with laminar air.
Fourth floor covers 13 double wards, 4 single wards, game room for children. Fifth floor has café, diner, library, Internet center, 110-seat conference hall.
1080-sq.m garret is equipped with German-made ventilation system.
Pavement includes ventilation and gas net plants, isolator hall, communication and central computer system, laundry and sterilization room.
The building has special fire emergency system.
Launch of the Center will contribute to creation of specialized medical center and blood bank, development of voluntary donor service for assurance of thalassemia-affected children with safe and high quality blood, enlightenment of population and deepening of cooperation with foreign states fighting thalassemia to prevent expansion of this disease, training of high-qualified personnel.
Radical treatment of thalassemia will be applied in the Center in near future, which means complete recovery. Equipment here assures treatment of highest level.
Opening of this new treatment center in the capital is one of the worthiest contributions by Heydar Aliyev Foundation to health of population.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction of facilities created at the Center.
