Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva awarded the national order of Legion of Honor by the order of the President of the Republic of France

Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, has been awarded the Officer Class of the National Order of Legion of Honor by the order of the President of the Republic of France.

 

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion, saying the Order was awarded to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva for outstanding service and loyalty to France.

 

Expressing delight of giving the good news, Mr Sarkozy stressed his special respect and honor to President Ilham Aliyev.

 

Instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the National Order of Legion of Honor is the highest award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the social status or the nationality of the recipients. The highest state award of France, which is granted to world-famous figures of politics, culture and art, statesmen and commanders, has five classes. After analyzing personal information about the nominees the 11-member Award Commission allows awarding.

 

A number of world-famous persons have so far received the Officer Class of the National Order of Legion of Honor that is granted for special merits before the people and Republic of France.

 

Awarding of the highest order of France to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, once again proves that her public and patronage activities, invaluable contributions to the development of social, educational and cultural fields has gained huge respect and honor not in Azerbaijan only, but in the world as well.
