President of European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey visits Heydar Aliyev Foundation

President of European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey visited Heydar Aliyev Foundation, April 8.

Employee of the Foundation warmly greeting Patrick Hickey and his spouse expressed delight of seeing the distinguished guest at the Foundation named after national leader Heydar Aliyev, constructor and architect of the independent state of Azerbaijan.

Visitors, getting familiarized with rich exposition of the Foundation, saw photos reflecting childhood, youth and education years of the great leader, documents, paintings he made, exhibits concerning his activities at intelligence services, both periods of his leadership in the republic, his actions in Moscow.

Patrick Hickey highly assessed the decisive role of Heydar Aliyev, outstanding person possessing high prestige as one of former USSR leaders, in protection of state independence of Azerbaijan and implementation of economic reforms that are foundation to this, development of science, culture and sport. Familiarized with model of BTC main export oil pipeline, fruit of his intellect, the guest underlined the great impact of this project not only in the region but the geopolitical situation in Europe.

P.Hickey viewed also photographs displaying meetings Heydar Aliyev had with influential political figures of the world, state and government leaders, monuments set in his memory in different countries.

It was noted main goals of the Foundation is to study and propagate rich political legacy of famous political figure Heydar Aliyev, create an obvious idea in foreign visitors and future generations on his large-scale activity, help the works implemented in field of wide propaganda of Azeri culture and history. The Foundation also carries out wide-scale projects, gives contribution to realization of desires of the outstanding figure of politics. Nearly 200 modern schools were built and commissioned in all regions of the republic on the initiative of the Foundation and equipped with necessary devices. Wide-scale projects were implemented in field of health, in particular to help treatment of ills suffering thalassemia and diabetes, up to 4000 people were helped in treatment. Calling `May each plant a tree`, last project of the Foundation, caused a wide resonance all over the country, over 100,000 trees planted for short time. Several projects were carried out to develop science, culture, in field of application of IT. 29 children homes and boarding schools were reconstructed and supplied with new and modern appliances.

It was emphasized Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva is also President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation. She performs great organizational works in development of this discipline of sport. At her initiative the 27th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship was held in Baku. The Foundation closely cooperates with a number of international entities, public and non-governmental organizations.

Patrick Hickey signed the guest book, expressed his rich impressions of acquaintance with the Foundation.

He was presented souvenirs on behalf of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

During familiarization Patrick Hickey was accompanied by vice-president of National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade..
