Romania Libera, a leading newspaper in Romania posted an analytic article about Azerbaijan’s present development and pragmatic foreign policy on the 5 June issue.
Written by Laurençiu Mihun, the Deputy Chief Editor of the newspaper who visited Baku for Eurovision-2012 at the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Romania and the Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in this country, the article is titled “Azerbaijan – a chessboard behind Eurovision”.
The article talks about Azerbaijanis’ hospitality, sincerity, rapid construction works in Baku, harmony of new architectural monuments with ancient and historical buildings, care to the unique cultural heritage, the Icharishahar Reserve that has become the country’s brand.
The author writes critical positions against Azerbaijan in the international press on the Eurovision eve were partial, since Azerbaijan successfully coped with everything in the organization of the contest, including security affairs.
The article says Azerbaijan is in the complicated geopolitical space and is not lucky in comparison with former post soviet countries. According to the author, despite the pressures from Europe and neighbors, Azerbaijan has managed to protect its secularity in the Muslim world, to properly continue the international relations.
The article emphasizes the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, which left a million of refugee and IDP. According to the author, Azerbaijan pursues a tolerant policy, despite the situation with Armenia and strengthening threats from the southern neighbor.
