An international conference held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representation in Turkey ended

Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s Representation in Turkey and Uludagh University held international conference “Energy Security and Regional Problems in Caucasus” in Bursa.

In the second day of the conference, representative of the US German Marshall Foundation, Professor Joshua Walker made report “Energy security in Caucasus in global context: competition or cooperation”. According to him, energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey is an important factor in the region’s progress. Washington should support Turkey’s efforts in the resolution of the regional conflicts, in particular Daghlyg Garabagh conflict. The own interests of the US demand this. The hydrocarbon transit projects in the region can be implemented successfully if they are based on the strong political will. BTC main export oil pipeline accomplished by the late President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev is a sample to this.

Delivering lecture “Caspian energy security: ricks and opportunities”, Professor of the Carleton University of Canada Robert Cutler said the regional conflicts are obstacles to energy routes, new projects and progress of the region. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan that gained great achievements in delivery of hydrocarbon resources to the global market during 20 years of their independence are the rich countries of the region. Specially the policy of the Azerbaijani government to change oil revenues into human capital, lead the transparency initiative, create strong infrastructure has fruits. Azerbaijan, which is leader in South Caucasus, invests in neighbor countries, contributes to economy of Turkey and Georgia. Today, in particular development of Georgian economy is linked to the successful investment policy of Azerbaijan.

Representative of German Institute for International and Security Affairs Uve Halbach spoke about conflicts in Caucasus and their impact on energy security. He said Armenia is under the influence of Russia mostly and beyond all the energy projects. This situation has affected the social conditions in the country.

Professor of Saint Petersburg State University Irina Boyko talked of Russia’s energy policy and role of Caspian region in this affair.

First Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Arif Hashimov informed of the oil strategy of Azerbaijan started by national leader Heydar Aliyev, oil and gas production, international energy projects, investments by Azerbaijan in energy sector of foreign countries.
