The Frankfurt Book Fair has a tradition exceeding 500 years. After the invention of book printing by Johannes Guttenberg in Frankfurt am Mein, first book fair was held by local traders. By the middle of the 17th century, this fair turned into the most significant book fair of Europe. As a result of political and cultural development in the Renaissance period, the Leipzig book fair made left it behind. After the Second World War, in 1949, first book fair was held again at the Saint Paul Church, and since then the Frankfurt Book Fair regained its leading position.
