Following the initiative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Libya, an article entitled “The Heydar Aliyev Foundation: Supporting talents, popularization of the Azerbaijani culture, organization of exhibitions and contribution to researches” has been published in this country’s state media, the “Libya al-Akhrabiyya” newspaper.
It is stated in the newspaper that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was created based on the Azerbaijani people’s wish to express its esteem to the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev, who has entered the history of Azerbaijan as a founding father of a modern and independent state, and the necessity of studying and dissemination of his rich moral legacy, and cultivate national statehood ideas in new generations.
In the article, it has been emphasized that, starting its activity in 2004, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has taken active part in building of a new society, by implementing various projects in the sphere of science and education, healthcare, culture, sport, environment and social field, as well as promotion of Azerbaijan abroad, and has made significant contribution to the country’s social and economic development.
It is also noted in the article that the primary objective of the Foundation is to expand cooperation with foundations, NGOs, public organizations of both Azerbaijan and foreign countries, to implement joint projects, provide support to revealing peoples’ creative potential, knowledge and skills, showing and development of their ability, help in solution of pressing social issues, and reach out a helping hand to those in need of special care. The Foundation’s basic objectives include also providing support to works associated with wide popularization of the Azerbaijani culture, preservation of sound moral values, holding events aimed at increasing the influence of Azerbaijan on the international arena, as well as cooperation with education institutions of both Azerbaijan and foreign countries: “The Foundation’s logo symbolizes the unification of the Azerbaijani people around the ideas of the national leader.”
Mentioning that Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva had been awarded the titles of Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO for her benevolent activity, contributions to preservation of the world culture and protection of women’s rights, the author notes that a school building destroyed by a strong earthquake in Pakistan’s Muzaffarabad city was replaced with a newly built school building following Mehriban Aliyeva’s personal initiative: “Iftar tables were organized by the Pakistan Sweet Home Foundation following the initiative and with support from Mehriban Aliyeva for 1200 children from 11 children homes of this country, and medical examinations and vaccination actions have been taken in a number of children’s homes”.
In the article, comprehensive information is given in respect of the activity of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation towards lifting illiteracy, and gender equality, and noted that 300 state-of-the-art schools have been built following the Foundation’s initiative within the project “New school for a new Azerbaijan”.
