An evening to commemorate Vagif Mustafazadeh is held in Moscow

On March 14, an evening to remember Azerbaijan’s eminent jazz composer and performer Vagif Mustafazadeh was held in Moscow’s Igor Butman Jazz Club, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Russian Representative Office and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia.

 

Opening the event, head of the Public and Mass Media Relations Department of the Russian Representative Office of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Tamilla Ahmadova mentioned that the 14th of March was the birthday of Vagif Mustafazadeh. She expressed a hope that holding of such evenings of remembrance will become a tradition.

 

People’s Artist of Russia Anatoly Kroll said that works by Vagif Mustafazadeh spurred development of the Azerbaijani jazz in new and unique direction, created totally different stream in the art of jazz based on the Azerbaijan mugham, and that the foundation of a whole stream of jazz was laid on the basis of mugham.

 

Russia’s well-known journalist Helen Hanga too talked of Vagif Mustafazeh’s creativity.

 

At the evening, works by Vagif Mustafazadeh were performed by “Elchin Shirinov’s Trio”, well-known jazz vocalist Eteri Beriashvili, well-known jazz performers Arzu Huseynov, Vagif Sadykhov, Michael Okun, Sergey Baulin, and Vladimir Koltsov-Krutov.

 

The evening was attended by representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Russian Office, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia and the Congress of All-Russian Azerbaijanis, as well as Russia’s well-known musicians and public persons.
