Mugham World 5th International Mugham Festival comes to the end

On March 14, the Mugham World 5th International Mugham Festival came to the end in the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic.

 

Realized with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Composers Union and the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire, and continuing for one week, the Festival was joined by over 15 countries.

 

Artistic Director of the Festival, People's Artist, Chairperson of the Composers Union Firangiz Alizadeh addressed the event.

 

Then, winners of the international mugham contest were awarded.

 

Azerbaijani khanendeh on solo-mugham performance Elsever Muradov and Iyos Arabov from Uzbekistan were honoured with the first place. Representative of Tajikistan Sardor Soliyev and Parviz Gasimov from Azerbaijan took the second place.

 

Instrumental mugham performer, Azerbaijani musician Nurlan Jabizadeh was awarded the first place, with Aria Mohafez (Iran) and Elnur Mikayilov (Azerbaijan) being honoured with the second place. Otajon Akramov and Azamat Ergashev (Uzbekistan) were in the third place.

 

Minister of culture and tourism Abulfas Garayev, Festival’s artistic director Firangiz Alizadeh and chairperson of the international mugham contest’s jury, rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatoire, People’s Artist Siyavush Karimi presented diplomas and awards to the winners.

 

Performer from Israel Noam Dayan, representative of Egypt Omer Abdo and Azerbaijani musician Arifa Imanova were presented awards instituted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

 

Congratulating all the winners, Abulfas Garayev thanked First Vice-president of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva for the support provided for holding this festival. He noted that the best khanendehs chosen by the jury would contribute to the promotion of mugham on a wider geographic scale.

 

The minister said: “Henceforth, this festival will take place once every three years, and we have to start preparing for the next festival now.”

 

Then, the Azerbaijan State Popular Music Instruments Orchestra and winners of the mugham contest performed under the leadership of artistic director and chief conductor Aghaverdi Pashayev.

 

Popular song “Sary Gelin” presented by Azerbaijani and Kazakh musicians as a Novruz gift at the closing ceremony made the evening more colourful.
