The open sculptural contest held to make a statue of Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev comes to the end

The open sculptural contest held by the Culture Ministry, the Baku City Executive Authority and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to make a statue of Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev came to the end. The decision of the jury will be disclosed in the next few days.

26 projects were presented, in general, to the project, which was joined by professional sculptors engaged in landscape architecture, garden-park and town sculpture.

Young artist-sculptors and a foreign author too participate in the contest, along with well-known sculptors. Among those participating in the contest are renowned Azerbaijani sculptors – People’s artists Khanlar Ahmadov, Natig Aliyev, Omar Eldarov, Salhab Mammadov, Honoured Artist Azad Aliyev, as well as Jalil Garyaghdy. Famous sculptor Rahib Hasanov, who lives beyond the Azerbaijani border, also presented his project.

Sculptors from regions of Azerbaijan (Ganja city and Saatly district) also joined the contest. As this project aroused great interest in the general public, volunteers too joined the contest, along with professionals.

On the sketches presented to the project, the phaeton of Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, his Bukhara papakh, traditional garment, beads, hand-stick, orders and medals, his profession of a brick layer, formation as a construction master and organizer, oil rigs that have made him a millionaire, and his support for education are shown as basic elements.

The organizing committee will determine one winner among the applications and sketches presented to the contest. Selection of contest participants is carried out on such criteria as compliance with the theme, professionalism of the author’s view and level of execution, as well as conformity of the composition materials to the treatment technology.

Erection of the statue will be performed under the direct supervision of either the author himself or a person authorized by him, in the place chosen by the organizer of the contest.

The statue of Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev is planned to be erected on the square near “Icherisheher” underground station, at Istiglaliyyat street.
