Round-table discussions on the subject “Projects on restoration of monuments of cultural heritage on the liberated from occupation territories: targets, challenges, features, perspectives” take place at the Heydar Aliyev Centre

On December 13th, round-table discussions on the subject “Projects on restoration of monuments of cultural heritage on the liberated from occupation territories: targets, challenges, features, perspectives” took place at the Heydar Aliyev Centre.

 

Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Alakbarov addressed the event. He mentioned that after our territories that were under Armenia’s occupation for almost thirty years were liberated in the Patriotic War under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, large-scale construction and repair works were launched here. He said works were underway in the regions on performing inventory control and protection of historical and cultural monuments, as well as their restoration, along with the infrastructure projects.

 

“First Vice-president of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva announced, December 8th, 2020, the launching of a project on restoration of cultural and religious monuments, including mosques, on the territories liberated from occupation. By this, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation provides its support to the projects being implemented by the state on the historical restoration works, as a member of the civil society. Along with local specialists, foreign experts were also invited to the projects being implemented in the region following the instruction of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva. At the moment, specialists from Austria, the Great Britain, Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Russia, Turkey, Georgia etc. are involved in the restoration process.

 

A task force was established for the implementation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s project on the territories liberated from the occupation, and preliminary assessment was conducted with a view to studying the monuments to be restored. The restoration works will cover all the monuments, regardless of their religious affiliation. While reconstructing monuments, the principle of keeping their original, i.e. authentic view, was taken as the basis. The related international practice is studied and advanced methods are also applied when restoring, conserving and reconstructing the monuments, - said Anar Alakbarov.

 

The assistant to the President noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation carries out not only restoration works in Karabakh. Construction of new religious and cultural buildings is expected in order to contribute to the construction works carried out at a rapid pace.

 

The Foundation has accomplished restoration of a number of cultural monuments. In August this year, repair, restoration and reconstruction works on the museum-mausoleum complex of Molla Panah Vagif in Shusha city was completed, and the complex was commissioned. Works on the complex were launched by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in March 2021, and the monument was restored according to its historical view. In the period past, the bust of great Azerbaijani poet Molla Panah Vagif and the statue of eminent composer Uzeir Hajibeyli were rebuilt with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and erected in Shusha city.

 

The assistant to the President thanked the private sector of Azerbaijan, including Pasha Holding, for their participation in the restoration process on the territories liberated from occupation, as well as representatives of mass media for covering the restoration and reconstruction works, and for conveying them to the world society.

 

It was noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has participated, in the previous years, in restoration of historical-religious monuments in various countries of the world, including Bulgaria, Vatican etc. The experience gained is now applied on the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from the occupation.

 

Then, a video address by executive director of Austria’s “Wehdorn Architekten” Company Manfred Wehdor took place. Special envoy of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Shusha district Aydin Kerimov, chairperson of the Karabakh Revival Fund’s Board of Directors Rahman Hajiyev, restorer of “Uni Construction”, Italian specialist Luigi Scrinzi, project head of “Uni Construction” Company, Turkish specialist Ali Ünlü, restorer of Austria’s "PARTNER Consulting+Projects" Company Roman Brugger, chairperson of Shusha City State Reserve Department’s Board of Directors Maftun Abbasov, chief restorer of "Cronos” Ughur Miralay, head of the Georgian National Museum Conservation Scientific Institute’s Restoration Department Salome Guruli, head of the Georgian National Museum Conservation Scientific Institute Nino Kalandadze, general manager of Latvia’s "Buvtelnieks” Company for projects Sandis Cvetkovs and partner of the company Janis Meroza, chief architect of "Simmetrico” Francesko Giordano, Honoured architect of the Republic of Azerbaijan Adalat Mammadov, director of the Great Britain’s "Mangera Yvars Architects” Company Ali Mangera and executive director of Bulgaria’s “EKSA” Company Konstantin Nedkov Pee delivered a speech at the event.
