Days of Azerbaijani Culture held in the city of Cannes have been widely covered in the local media

Mass media of France have widely covered the events associated with the Days of Azerbaijani Culture held on 4 to 7 July in the city of Cannes, south of France, where annual movie festivals are held.


An article entitled “Grandiose Fireworks” published in daily newspaper “Nice-matin”, a newspaper being printed in the south region of France, states that the Pyrotechnics Art Festival season started with the Days of Azerbaijani Culture, and  the grandiose fireworks were organized in honour of Azerbaijan, a guest of Cannes. It says that the fireworks starting with colours of the Azerbaijani flag were organized on the basis of an unforgettable nice composition and it was performed according to an Azerbaijani music.


In an article of the newspaper entitled “Azerbaijan’s beauty is celebrated at the Palace of Festivals of Cannes”, concerts held with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and  demonstration of the movie “Arshyn mal alan”, and special significance  of these events in receiving comprehensive information about the old history, rich cultural values and tourism opportunities of Azerbaijan-the pearl of the Caucasus- is emphasized.


In the article of the newspaper entitled “Azerbaijan in Cannes”, it is brought to attention that the exhibition held with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and assistance by Azerbaijan’s Embassy in France within the project “Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan – the Pearl of the Caucasus” in a number of cities of France successfully started in famous Festivals Palace of Cannes. It is also noted that demonstration of ancient coins at the exhibition talks of our country’s rich history, and the Maiden Tower, one of the symbols of the Land of Fire, was entered on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List.


The article states that the exhibition organized within the project “Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan – the Pearl of the Caucasus” presents the history and culture of our country and plays a special role in providing the French audience with comprehensive information about Azerbaijan, and that archaeological finds, copper items, old music instruments and antique carpets with colourful patterns aroused much interest in the visitors.


Providing comprehensive information about the demonstration of works by Azerbaijani artists, their paintings on canvases and delivering in various works human emotions to visitors in colourful form in the section of “Emotions” of the exhibition, the newspaper talks also about successful performance by the Azerbaijan Symphonic Orchestra during the event and mentions that it was founded in 1920 by our great composer Uzeir Hajibeyli,   was among the best orchestras of the former Soviet Union and that once it had been directed by famous composers Rene Bato and Otto Klemperer.


The article also talks about the successful performance of the symphonic orchestra directed by Fakhraddin Karimov.


Writing also about the performances by “Natig” Rhythm Group and the State Dance Ensemble within the days of culture, the newspaper underlines that the French audience shows special interest towards naghara among the rich cultural treasures of Azerbaijan, and that it was a musical instrument related to Azerbaijani folklore and the group had successfully performed at an international festival held in 2010 in Soul.


In its program devoted to the Days of Azerbaijani Culture held in Cannes, influential “TV5 Monde” TV channel of France brought to attention that the Days of Azerbaijani Culture being held within the project “Cultural Treasures of the Caucasus – the Pearl of the Caucasus” with organizational support from the  Heydar Aliyev Foundation had a purpose to acquaint the French audience more closely with our country’s old history and rich cultural heritage, and that such events were of special importance in terms of developing the cultural relations between the two countries.


In a program devoted to the Azerbaijani mugham and jazz music, they talked about successful performance of young jazzmen Shahin Novrasli and Isfar Sarabski in international jazz festivals, and our country’s architectural monuments, sightseeing of Baku, matchless nature and tourism opportunities were demonstrated.   


“Cezar.fr” and “artcotedazur” portals talks about the establishment of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, building and strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and France, its activity towards bringing these two nations closer, as well as various events held both in and outside the country. The portals stated that the Foundation is headed by Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and the Foundation’s Vice-president Leyla Aliyeva takes special interest in art and her works gained great successes at exhibitions organized abroad in connection with the Azerbaijani art.
