Next Nasimi-Poetry, Art and Morality Festival to be held in Azerbaijan

The Nasimi-Poetry, Art and Morality Festival will be held in Azerbaijan from September 28th to October 1st. To be realized with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Culture Ministry, the Festival aims at studying and promoting the creativity of great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadeddin Nasimi (1369-1417), and following how his thoughts are reflected in the contemporary life. Through a series of events, Nasimi’s poetry and the great poet’s philosophical ideas will be represented using various types of art, and their harmony.

 

The Nasimi-Poetry, Art and Morality Festival was first held in the course of September 27 to October 30 in 2018.

 

By the Resolution of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated January 11, 2019, this year was declared the “Nasimi Year”, to celebrate the 650th anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadeddin Nasimi.  

 

The Festival will, as in the previous year, be held under the slogans “From Heaven to Sky”, reflecting the poet’s philosophical views, and “I am a grain, I am the Sun,,,”, taken from his aphorism. Events covering various types of art and areas of knowledge will be organized both in Shamakhy-Nasimi’s homeland, and also in Baku and surrounding settlements.

 

Globally known researchers of Nasimi, poets and scholars, philosophers, artists, as well as music, dance and theatre bands will take part in the Festival.

 

Russian psychologist Aleksey Sytnikov, Italian poet David Rondoni and Zeygam Azizov - Azerbaijani descent, a philosopher and artist residing in the Great Britain, are going to draw a parallel, at their lectures, between the Nasimi philosophy and a series of other globally popular theories and concepts.

 

In the framework of the festival will also take place presentation of books about Nasimi and hurufism by renowned researcher of Nasimi Michael Hess and researcher Orkhan Mirgasimov, who resides in the Great Britain.

 

This year, for the first time, researchers and connoisseurs of poetry will present their interpretation of selected ghazals of Nasimi, and have discussions over these interpretations.

 

Opening of a contemporary art installation dedicated to Imadeddin Nasimi is also going to take place in Shamakhy.  

 

In the framework of the Festival, they will also announce the results of the contest of best poetic work in the spirit of Nasimi, or imitative poems, arranged by the Culture Ministry among young poets under the project “SOZ”.  

 

A number of exhibitions will be inaugurated during the festival days on various types of art. Works of local and foreign masters of fine arts – video art, graphics, installations and kinetic objects – will be demonstrated at the exhibition “Secrets of the Shirvanshahs Palace” in Baku.

 

There will also be arranged a final exhibition of carpet sketches by the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, devoted to masters of word, in the framework of the Festival. Carpets woven based on 3 works - winners of the contest, and carpet sketches chosen by a jury among the works presented will be displayed in the exposition.

 

Presentation of works created in the framework of the art project “Talking Walls” will take place in an abandoned industrial warehouse in Gala settlement of Baku under this project, and works created by artists from Azerbaijan, Brazil, South Africa, Spain, Netherlands and France on walls in the genre of urban ‘street art will be demonstrated.

 

At the Gala Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex will take place the 4th  International Sculpture Symposium called “Music of Stone”, and the 8th International Exhibition “From Waste to Art” at the Gala State History and Ethnographic Reserve.

 

Exhibitions, including a private exhibition by renowned Turkish artist Ahmet Güneştekin, will open at the Heydar Aliyev Centre in the framework of the Festival. Famous work of the artist called “The Immortality Room” will be shown in the exposition. A gala concert of the festival will also take place at the Heydar Aliyev Centre.

 

During the days of Festival, people of art coming from USA, China, Germany, the Great Britain, Georgia, Egypt, Ukraine, France, Canada, Jordan and a number of other world countries will,along with Azerbaijani masters of art, perform with interesting programmes.
