Baku French Lycéehas been created with a view to ensuring that French-language citizens living temporarily or permanently in Azerbaijan, as well as citizens of Azerbaijan have a chance to study in French.

In March 2011, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Embassy of France in Azerbaijan, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan on construction of a French lycée in Baku, and, in October of the same year, the foundation of the Lycée was laid with participation of the Azerbaijani and French presidents.

On September 12, 2014, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the Lycée.

Located in the “White City” area of Baku, the Lycee’s area is 14 thousand square metres. In this education institution designed for 320 pupils, primary education, including preschool education, and college-lycée groups are functioning.

Teaching system at the Lycée has been built on the basis of classic French national education system applied in a 12-year education institution, starting with a kindergarten. Teaching program is conducted in the French language, complying with the requirements of the French national education system. A certificate to be issued to pupils will comply with the standards and requirements of the French National Education Ministry. School leavers will have a chance to continue their education at any higher education institution of France according to their choices.
