The new building of Special Education School No.11 in Narimanov district has been constructed at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. On October 23, 2018, First Vice-president of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the school’s new building.

Special Education School No. 11 has been functioning since 1937. The old building of this education institution was constructed in 1897. As a result of the monitoring conducted by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, it became known that the school building was totally unsuitable for education, and a decision was taken on constructing a new building for the school.

The total area of the building is over 4 thousand square metres. There are 21 classrooms, rooms for a psychologist, defectologist and a physician, as well as sports and assembly halls, and a canteen in the building. A library has also been created here for children’s use.

The three-storied building of the school is designed for 250 pupils. 289 teachers are employed at the school, who are training children with autism, Down syndrome, those not capable to master the secondary school programme, and children with the diagnosis of retarded intellectual ability. Children that are unable to master the secondary school programme are revealed over the course of a year and sent to this school.

Extensive improvement and building works have been carried out in the front yard of the school, zones of greenery created, and recreation pavilions built.
