A monument was erected to Azerbaijan’s eminent thinker Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh in Moscow

A ceremony of opening of a monument erected to Azerbaijan’s eminent writer, philosopher and humanist Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh in the atrium of the All-Russian State Foreign Literature Library named after M.I.Rudomino was held, November 23. The project has been implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in cooperation with Azerbaijan’s Embassy in the Russian Federation and the All-Russian State Foreign Literature Library named after M.I.Rudomino. Author of the monument is Azerbaijan’s young sculptor, graduate of the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I.Surikov, member of the Moscow Artists Union Zaur Rzayev.


The ceremony was opened by the Library’s General Director Ekaterina Geniyeva. She said the erection of a monument to M.F.Akhundzadeh in Moscow was a significant event in the two nation’s life.


Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu noted: “This is a significant event in the history of the two nations’ cultural and mutual relations, as this is a monument to the person, who had laid the foundation of friendship between our nations and cultures.” He said grateful generations should not forget eminent persons like M.F.Akhundzadeh.


Polad Bulbuloglu thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, its President Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as Foundation’s Vice President Leyla Aliyeva, who has made great efforts in implementation of this idea, for accomplishment of this project.


Then the event continued with presentation of selected works by M.F.Akhundov entitled “Human intellect – a divine gift...” in the Library’s Round Hall.


At the end, students of the Moscow State Linguistics University said pieces from the “Eastern Poem” by M.F.Akhundzadeh.
