An event was held in the city of L'Aigle of France in connection with the Days of Azerbaijan

Another event in connection with the Days of Azerbaijan within the project “Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan-the Pearl of the Caucasus” was organized in the city of L'Aigle, to promote Azerbaijan in France,  with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and assistance by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France. 


Lord Mayor of the town of L'Aigle Thierry Pinot, who made a speech at the opening of the exhibition, said he knew this country a little and that Azerbaijan was a country located between the East and the West with its old history and rich cultural treasures. Mentioning his trip to Azerbaijan, the mayor noted that he was greatly impressed by our country, and said the country’s economy was developing with rapid pace, our people was very modern and that our centuries-long culture had deep roots.


Having noted the significance of existing different religions and cultures in Azerbaijan, a secular state, the mayor said ethnic groups live here in a peaceful, kind ad harmonious environment,     the country regained its independence about 20 years ago and is a young state. He said Azerbaijan is a country to establish the first democratic state not only in the Caucasus but also in the Eastern world, and is now confidently moving forward on the way of democracy. He noted the significance of the fraternization between the cities of L'Aigle and Naftalan in the development of friendship relations between the two nations.


Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to France Elchin Amirbayov said the exhibition and concert was organized within the project “Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan – the Pearl of the Caucasus”, with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and assistance by our country’s embassy in France to better promote our  country abroad, and underlined the diversity and richness of our culture. Mentioning that Azerbaijan was a very old country, the Ambassador said ethnic groups with different cultures, religions and languages lived here, and the country located on the ancient Silk Way.


It was noted that, having regained its independence 22 years ago, Azerbaijan is trying to promote its culture in France.


The Ambassador emphasized that Baku, the capital of the country, was rich in old cultural monuments and some of them were entered on UNESCO’s List of World Cultural Heritage Sites, and invited travel-lovers to Azerbaijan. 


Residents of the city viewed old carpets, khurjuns, men and women’s garments, samples of coppersmithery and pottery, musical instruments and other exhibits being displayed at the exhibition.


A concert of ethno-jazz music was organized at the building of the city municipality. Afgan Rasul, Etibar Asadli, Ruslan Huseynov, Elvin Bashirov and Rafael Aliyev performed at the concert.


At the end of the concert, city mayor Thierry Pinot thanked President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for the organization of the event.
