Opening of the Maiden Tower International Art Festival takes place

Opening of the Maiden Tower International Art Festival took place, May 26, with joint organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the “Icherisheher” State History and Architecture Reserve Department, the Modern Art Museum and the “Maiden Tower” Art Gallery.

The Festival’s objective is to promote the Maiden Tower, one of the most ancient monuments of Azerbaijan, more broadly, and popularise it.

The Maiden Tower, located on the territory of Icherisheher, which is entered on UNESCO’s List of the World’s Cultural Heritage, and the symbol of our capital, is capable of contributing to promotion of our people’s ancient history and rich traditions, enriching the universal cultural heritage and a dialogue between cultures, along with being a rare pearl of the Azerbaijani architecture.  

Over 20 well-known artists from 18 countries participate in the project. At the Festival’s opening, the artists created works reflecting the synthesis and exchange of different cultures and traditions, having decorated small mock-ups of the tower in their national styles.

Everyone coming during May 26 to May 28 to Icherisheher, the square before the Maiden Tower, may get a chance of watching this creative process and associating with the artists

At the end of the Festival, residents and visitors of Baku will have a chance to see an exhibition comprised of the artists’ works.
