The 2nd International Music in Stone Sculpture Symposium takes place by the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation

The 2nd International Music in Stone Sculpture Symposium took place in Gala settlement, nearby Baku on October 10, by the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, “Icherisheher” State History and Architecture Reserve Administration, and “QGallery” Art Gallery.

20 sculptors from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, New Zeeland, Iran, Tunisia, Jordan, Serbia, the Great Britain and China joined the symposium.

During the symposium, the participants created works in various themes using natural stones in the open air in Gala settlement.

Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov, cultural and art figure, attended the opening ceremony of presenting works.

Sculptors who were participants of the symposium shared their impressions.

British sculptor Ali Jabbar said he was very much pleased with participation in the symposium. “This is the second time I am in Azerbaijan. During my stay here, I have visited Baku’s places of interest. At the symposium, we tried to create art works, having come together with sculptors from different countries. I am happy to have presented my work to visitors. There are very professional sculptors in Azerbaijan. We have enjoyed very productive exchange of experiences. I want to thank the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and other relevant organizations for the conditions they have created for us”, - noted Ali Jabbar.

Turkish sculptor, Nesrin Karacan, has participated in such symposiums in the majority of the world countries, she noted that this was her first visit to Baku. She said: “In Azerbaijan, I have witnessed a creative environment. Very good conditions have been set here for us. My work, titled “Home”, which I’ve made for the symposium, means that Azerbaijan is a kind of our home too. We, sculptors, participate in each country with a different work. I am happy to have created such a work here. I want to thank the leadership of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for these conditions for us and, at the same time, everyone who has contributed to this work.”

Suleyman Rustamov, sculptor from Azerbaijan, said: “Along with the works of sculptors from different foreign countries, here are also displayed the works of Azerbaijani sculptors. My work “Heavenly Fish” describes the route of a fish through the times. I highly appreciate that such a symposium is held in our country. Representatives of the same art have come together here. This creates a favorable ground for mutual cooperation and exchange of art. This means also support for Azerbaijani sculptors. Of course, there will be more such symposiums in our country.”

Within this symposium Azerbaijan became a member of the International Sculptors Symposium Alliance.

In the meantime, the first Music in Stone International Sculpture Symposium was held in 2016, and 14 sculptors from 10 countries participated on that event. The works created within the 1st symposium are now displayed in the “I Love” Park Complex in Khatai district, Baku.
