Opening of the Uzeir Hajibeyli 11th International Music Festival takes place

On September 18, inauguration of the Uzeir Hajibeyli 11th International Music Festival took place, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Culture Ministry.

 

At the evening, the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, led by chief conductor Rauf Abdullayev, and soloist, Russian violin player, winner of the P.Chaikovskiy 14th International Contest Sergey Dogadin performed. An overture from Uzeir Hajibeyli’s “Koroghlu” Opera, a concert by Jan Sibelius for violin and orchestra and the 6th symphony of eminent Azerbaijani composer, People’s Artist of USSR, academician Arif Malikov in memory of the composer were performed in the programme.

 

Music groups from Azerbaijan, the USA, China, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Georgia will perform at the Uzeir Hajibeyli 11th International Music Festival. In general, some 40 events are expected to take place within the festival days in a number of concert halls of the capital, such as the International Mugham Centre, the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Azerbaijan Composers Union, the Baku Music Academy, the Heydar Aliyev Palace, and the Azerbaijan State Academic Music Theatre.

 

At the same time, a concert will be organized on September 25 at Garabagh Mugham Centre in Aghjabedi district with participation of the Azerbaijan State Song and Dance Ensemble, and soloists. On the same day, the two-act music comedy “O olmasyn bu olsun” by Uzeir Hajibeyli will be shown at the Ganja State Philharmonic, with participation of a company of actors of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, conducted by Sevil Hajiyeva.

 

On the days of festival, presentations of the project “Azerbaijan in 100 Songs” by People’s Artist, composer Aygun Samadzadeh, the book “The Music History of Azerbaijan” by Honoured Person of Art, academician Zemfira Safarova, at the Azerbaijan Composers Union, a jubilee evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Soltan Hajibeyov and other presentations will take place.

 

The festival will continue until September 30.
