A carpet exhibition dedicated to Nasimi is due to take place during the Nasimi Festival

On September 28, the final exhibition of the Carpet Sketches Contest, dedicated to Nasimi - a great master of word, will be opened at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, in the framework of the 2nd “Nasimi – Poetry, Art and Morality” Festival.


Carpets woven on the basis of 3 works – winners of the contest, as well as creative carpet sketches chosen by the jury among the works presented will be demonstrated at the exhibition.


Giving an interview to correspondents about the contest, director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Shirin Malikova noted that after the Resolution signed by the country’s President on celebrating the 650th anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet Imadeddin Nasimi and declaring the year 2019 as “The Nasimi Year”, the museum announced such a contest in order to contribute to this year. Creative people over 20 years of age participated in the contest. People from Azerbaijan, France, Italy, India, Russia etc. joined the contest. 3 winners were chosen among 51 sketches.


Along with the winning carpets, all sketches submitted to the contest will be demonstrated at the exhibition to be opened.


Fatma Akhundzadeh’s “Nasim yeli” (breeze) took the 1st place, Ruhangiz Baghyrova’s work entitled “Both worlds within my compass come, but this world cannot compass me” was awarded the 2nd place, while Surayya Dadashova’s work “Tears” was the third according to the results of the contest. Winners of the 1st and 2nd places were determined by the jury, while the winner of the 3rd place was the author who won the highest number of votes on the museum’s Facebook page. All three winners are students of the Azerbaijan State Art Academy.
