“Muraaqam” is presented at the 6th International Music Festival

Another concert programme within the framework of the Space of Mugam 6th International Music Festival was organized in the Chamber and Organ Music Hall of the State Academic Philharmonic of Azerbaijan named after Muslim Magomayev, June 20.

At the concert, called “Muraagqam” Project, performed People’s Artist Sakina Ismayilova, one of the eminent performers of Azerbaijan’s traditional and popular music, Vasumathi Badrinathan, an Indian classic music performer, and Indian violin performer and composer Jyotsna Srikanth.

A synthesis of Azerbaijani mugham and Indian music was presented at the concert.

Giving an interview to AZERTAG before the concert, People’s Artist Sakina Ismayilova noted that this project was a project of several years. She said: “We have performed with this project in a number of cities of India. And today, we perform together before the audience in our own country. Here, along with Indian music, we present a composition built on “Rast”, one of our mughams, the foundation of our music. They will perform Raga, and we will mugham. Altogether, there will be a traditional synthesis of music. Soloist Vasumathi Badrinathan, who is participating here together with me as a performer, is a multidirectional performer, who is distinguished for his special sensibility. A performer of southern Indian classical music, Vasumathi creates a beautiful unity of the traditional and contemporary music in his style of singing. He has given many concerts in European, Asian and Pacific Ocean basin’s countries”.

The Space of Mugam 6th International Music Festival is being held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Culture Ministry, enjoying the support of the Ministry of Science and Education and the National Conservatoire of Azerbaijan. The festival will continue until June 25.
