Vagif’s Poetry Days get started in Gazakh

Being held with the organizational activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, Vagif’s Poetry Days started in Gazakh, the poet’s native city, by laying flowers before Vagif’s bust in the village of Yukhary Salahly, July 13.

Then, persons of culture and art, members of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, young authors and poets got together in the Thinkers Park in the centre of Gazakh city.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Huseynov talked about the significance of holding Vagif’s Poetry Days. He noted that one of the resolutions by the head of the state after the liberation of Shusha from the occupation was to hold the Kharybulbul Festival and Vagif’s Poetry Days in Shusha. As of 2021, both the projects have been held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture.

The deputy minister underscored that although the poet was born in Gazakh, he rose to fame in Shusha, and was buried there. Having got started in Gazakh, Vagif’s Poetry Days will continue in Shusha, our cultural capital, on July 14 and 15.

Secretary of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan Ilgar Fahmi said, in his speech, that it is for the 3rd time that Vagif’s Poetry Days are held after Shusha was liberated: “Back in the Soviet time, Vagif’s Poetry Days used to start in Gazakh, Vagif’s native city, continuing in Shusha. This year too, it was decided that the days of poetry get started in Gazakh, following the tradition. Today, the project has already been launched”.

Literary critic Rustam Kemal underscored, in his speech, that Vagif is a poet who has played an exclusive part in tuning our written literature to national ethnic codes, and in creation of our people’s own image in our poetry. From top to toe, Vagif is a poetry of light. Most frequently cited and drawing-attention words in his poems are the words “nur”, “ishyg”, “shola”, meaning light. “Head of our state Ilham Aliyev and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation have been patronizing our culture, our literature, our classics, playing a great role in returning them into our national memory. As an educated person, I want to thank the leadership of the country”, - he said.

Poet-publicist Akbar Goshaly noted that tomorrow, they would leave Gazakh, Vagif’s native city, for Shusha to participate in the days of poetry there. The fact that this event is held in the cultural capital of the Turkic world with participation of poets and writers coming from the Turkic world is a significant event.

Poet Ibrahim Ilyasly too talked about Vagif’s matchless merits in the Azerbaijani literature, as well as the richness his creativity has endowed our literature with.

Then, poets and ashygs took the floor, and ghazals by Molla Panah Vagif were told.
