The complex created in Zira settlement in memory of people perished in the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945 was opened after reconstruction
The newly-reconstructed complex in Zira settlement of Azizbeyov district commemorating the veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 was opened on May 9.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony.
Veterans sincerely welcomed President and First Lady.
The complex covering 1,5 hectares has been reconstructed due to support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, provided with every condition for rest of residents, trees and flower bushes planted here.
The plaque here was inscribed with the names of Zira residents who died during the Great Patriotic War.
President Ilham Aliyev lit the torch in the memorial complex.
The President and his spouse laid flowers at the monument.
Expressing gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for works done in Azerbaijan, including Zira veterans said ‘We have always supported the head of our state and will support henceforth. We thank the God for having president like You. All veterans of Azizbeyov district are proud of You. In the presidential elections to be held in October we will vote for Ilham Aliyev – the worthy successor of national leader Heydar Aliyev.’
Veterans recalled historical services of great leader Heydar Aliyev in celebration of May 9 – Victory Day as the holiday. ‘We would not be here today if not him. We were in depression. He raised us. Some were saying you have not defended the homeland. But we had defended our homeland’ veterans said.
Veterans highly assessed works done by Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP.
President Ilham Aliyev met with veterans one by one, congratulated them and said: ‘Huge reconstruction works have been done last years in Zira settlement, also towards solution of social issues. All this lift the level of the settlement. The level here conforms to the one of any city.’
In a meeting with war veterans the President stressed
that 9 May Holiday had been scrapped before Heydar Aliyev came to the power in
1993. ‘That was not marked as a holiday. Only due to effort of Heydar Aliyev
this holiday was restored and is marked today. We celebrate it as a holiday,
meet and talk. Leadership of that time was indifferent and unjust to people
having lost their health for the motherland. They wanted and were wiping out
your heroism from the history. Heydar Aliyev reinstated this holiday after
returning to the power in 1993, started to support veterans, different measures
were taken, laws adopted, orders signed. It is continued today, I will always
be with you.’ President
