Iftar meal has been organized on behalf of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for orphans in Pakistan

Following the initiative of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Iftar meal has been organized for children and elderly residing in “Edhi Homes” Orphanage in the city of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, as well as for technical workers of this organization and invited guests. The event was attended by Senator Malik Mahammad Rafig Rajwana and Said Zafar Ali Shah, members of the National Assembly Asiya Naz Tanoli, Tahir Igbal Choudri, MPs of Punjab  and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, country’s well-known political and religious persons, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, employees of the Embassy, as well as mass media people.  


Information was provided at the ceremony about the projects implemented in Azerbaijan following Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative and under her leadership, in particular her charitable actions. It was informed that within the humanitarian aid programs of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Pakistan, children that have received asylum in “Edhi Homes” Orphanage, as well as tens of thousands of residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have been medically examined and vaccinated against Hepatitis “B” virus, and medical examination has been organized for the orphans at “Akbar Care” Cerebral Palsy Institute in the city of Peshawar and free of charge open heart surgeries carried out at “Kulsum International” Hospital.


Moreover, an ambulance provided with state-of-the-art blood transfusion equipment and laboratory and 2000 blood transfusion packages have been provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to “Hamza” Foundation, charity actions were held in Ramadan month and Gurban Holiday in Punjab, Sind, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balujistan provinces, financial aid provided to the construction of a new building of Khyber Eye Foundation and material aid provided to “Saif” Foundation. 


It was also brought to the attention of the participants of the ceremony that a new and state-of-the-art school building was constructed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation instead of the old one completely demolished as a result of the earthquake in Pakistan’s  Muzaffarabad city in 2007, and, following the initiative of the Pakistani Government, in 2012, after major repair, this school was named after Mehriban Aliyeva.


Well-known politician, Senator Malik Mahammad Rafig Rajwana, a leading functionary of Pakistan’s ruling  Muslim League, thanked the First Lady of Azerbaijan for charitable projects implemented in Pakistan, as well as for the organization of Iftar meals for orphans in Ramadan, and said this action is the sign of brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.


Senator Rajwana noted that significance of the projects implemented by Mehriban Aliyeva in Pakistan are highly appreciated by the general public, and just for this reason the First Lady of Azerbaijan was awarded, in 2012, the title of “The Person of the Year –the Symbol of Humanism” by Women Volunteers Organization and the “Daily Times” newspaper of Pakistan.


After the Iftar meal, a musical program was organized for the residents of “Edhi Homes” Orphanage and they were given keepsakes from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
