The Heydar Aliyev Foundation and BP sign a memorandum of cooperation on joint implementation of projects

On September 20, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and BP Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov and BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gary Jones participated in the signing ceremony.

At the meeting held between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and BP Azerbaijan, discussions were held on projects to be implemented in Azerbaijan, as well as the potential for cooperation in the social sphere, culture, sports, education, science and technology, and environment issues.

Anar Alakbarov talked about the contributions made by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, having been in operation since 2004, to the state policy concerning social-economic and cultural spheres, and to the formation of a civil society, underscoring that the Foundation’s worldwide activities have been playing a significant role in the lives of countries and peoples, and in widening bilateral relations. Among these projects were cited the recently inaugurated Emergency Centre, constructed in Bosnia and Hercegovina with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, projects implemented in Hungary, and the presentation to take place in Vatican with respect to restoration of catacombs. At the same time, among the largest projects successfully implemented by the Foundation were mentioned “New school to renewed Azerbaijan”, “Support for Education”, construction of the Thalassemia Centre, as well as projects associated with children suffering from Down syndrome, children in need of special care, those deprived of parental protection, and projects related to promotion of our history and culture. ”The fact that today’s signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and BP coincides with the date of signing the “Contract of century” on 20 September 24 years before bears a symbolic meaning. Starting its activities in Azerbaijan within large oil projects, BP currently continues its activities also under the memorandum of cooperation signed with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation – the largest non-government organization of the region, expanding their activities in our country in the humanitarian sphere, which is rejoicing. I hope the memorandum signed between the Foundation and BP would be implemented successfully on our projects not only in Baku, but also in regions.” – said Anar Alakbarov.

Noting he had long wished to visit the Heydar Aliyev Centre, Gary Jones said: “We are very much delighted to have a memorandum of cooperation signed on such a day – the Azerbaijani Oil Workers Day - and the 24th anniversary of signing the “Contract of Century”, our first contract with Azerbaijan”. BP is proud of having been working in Azerbaijan. Since the time of signing our first contract, BP has been working together with brave oil workers of Azerbaijan in the country’s oil industry.”

Gary Jones mentioned that the company he represents has witnessed successful implementation of the strategic plans far-sightedly put forward by Azerbaijani people’s national leader Heydar Aliyev during the years of the company’s operation in Azerbaijan. These strategic plans have been skilfully implemented for the sake of the country’s interest, and its future. Citing such factors as advancement of education and culture, taking care of people as the bedrock of these plans, Gary Jones highly appreciated the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation from this standpoint.

Gary Jones noted: “BP highly appreciates this memorandum of cooperation, which gives us a chance to support the endeavours towards building Azerbaijan’s bright future. We believe that the works carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation are matchless contribution to the country’s future. The works carried out by the Foundation in the fields of culture, education, environment and social sphere are highly appreciated both within the country, and at the international level. In the course of the last 26 years of our activity in Azerbaijan, we have done our best to support advancement of education, creating skills in communities, strengthening small and medium entrepreneurship, advancement of sports in the country, and propagation of cultural heritage. I hope the memorandum signed will give us a chance to make more contribution to this brilliant country, being a reliable and long-term partner.”

The memorandum of cooperation provides for implementation of mutually interesting projects in the regions of Azerbaijan covering the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and South Caucasus Gas pipelines, in the spheres of education, culture, healthcare etc. These projects would include construction and restoration of infrastructure facilities, including school buildings, restoration and preservation of cultural and historical heritage, and supporting small and medium entrepreneurship. At the same time, joint projects will be implemented in the fields of ecology, sports, social issues and education, as well as advancement of various professions and start-ups, enlightening children and juveniles, and on children deprived of parental protection.

The guests also visited the Heydar Aliyev Museum and exhibition halls in the Centre. Along with being an example of architecture, the building of the Heydar Aliyev Centre aroused great interest in the guests as a place for presenting interesting projects.
