Presentation of the first European Games takes place in Berlin

An event devoted to the first European Games was held at Bode Museum, one of the famous cultural centres of Berlin, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Germany, October 13.


The activity of the Organizing Committee chaired by Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva was talked about at the event.


Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany Parviz Shahbazov, chairperson of the German Bundestag’s South Caucasus Friendship Group Karin Strents and President of the German Olympic Committee Alfonse Hermann delivered a speech at the ceremony.


Parviz Shahbazov talked about the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by Mehriban Aliyeva, and underscored the contributions the Foundation has made to bilateral relations in the sphere of culture.


In his speech, Azad Rahimov talked about Azerbaijan’s rapid development, sportsmen’s achievements on the international arena, and mentioned Azerbaijan’s hosting a number of high-level international competitions.


The Minister provided information about the first European Games to be held in Baku.


At the ceremony, information was given with regard to historical ties between Azerbaijan and Germany, works carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation both within the country and beyond its borders towards preserving cultural heritage, agitating cultural relations and improving education conditions for the youth, and a documentary reflecting the preparation for the first European Games was demonstrated.


The event was attended by Director of the Heydar Aliyev Centre Anar Alakbarov, German state secretaries, deputies of the Bundestag, well-known political persons, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Germany, activists of the Azerbaijani Diaspora and representatives of the German press.
