“President Cup” Second International Chess Festival in memory of the national leader Heydar Aliyev officially opened in Baku

‘President Cup’ Second International Chess Festival was officially opened May 3 at Eliza Hall of Baku Entertainment Center due to support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in memory of the national leader. 


In the lobby there were photos reflecting the state care to sport.


The Festival brings together up to 160 chess players from 17 countries. 26 of 53 foreign chess players present in the contest are international grand masters.


Talking of care and attention rendered by national leader Heydar Aliyev to development of all disciplines in the republic, including chess the speakers said as a result of this concern our compatriots Teymur Rejebov and Shahriyar Mammadyarov are considered one of the strongest chess players in the world. They stated President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on April 27, 2007 to develop chess in the country and this document will contribute to new victories in the future.
