Presentation ceremony of the translation of book “Irevan Khanate” into Romanian language held at the Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Romania

Presentation ceremony of the translation of book “Irevan Khanate” into Romanian language was held at the Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Romania, October 12, 2011. The book was compiled by the Institute of History named after A.A.Bakykhanov of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and published under the initiative and financial support of the Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Romania.


The event was attended by the staff of the Azerbaijani Embassy to Romania, representatives of the Azerbaijani-Romanian Friendship Society, Romania-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the staff of SOCAR Office in Romania, representatives of the Romanian public organizations and foundations, famous figures of art, literature, history and religion, journalists, diplomats of foreign countries accredited to Romania, representatives of the Turkish and Tatar communities, Azerbaijanis who study in Romania, a delegate of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.


Delivering a keynote speech at the ceremony, Head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in Romania Igbal Hajiyev spoke about the importance of the book. “This book reflects information about the administrative structure, socio-economic life of Irevan Khanate, heroic struggle of Azerbaijan against the foreign invaders in the 19th century, a powerful resistance against Russian Empire, documents and facts about mass resettlement of Armenians from Iran and the Ottoman Empire in the occupied Irevan Khanate.” he said.


Addressing the ceremony, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Romania Eldar Hasanov said this book deals with one of the Azerbaijani states formed after the collapse of the Afshar Empire – Irevan Khanate. He mentioned the first undeniable sources prove that Azerbaijanis formed the majority of population in Irevan Khanate. Talking of similarities between Azerbaijanis and Romanians, the Ambassador gave detailed information on the Armenian aggression to Azerbaijan, noting despite it all the people of Azerbaijan does not have an eye on the land of anyone and the state of Azerbaijan respects territorial integrity of all countries. 


Chairperson of Bucharest Writers Association Horia Garbea said that the information contained in this book is based on reliable sources. According to him, the Romanian readers will be able to obtain extensive information in their own language about the history and culture of Azerbaijan. He mentioned he was familiarized with a number of facts included in the book during his visit to Azerbaijan, adding the people of Romania always supports the fair work of Azerbaijan. 


Director of journal “GeoPolitica”, Head of “Top Form” Publishing House, where book “Irevan Khanate” was published, Vasile Simileanu said his cooperation with the Azerbaijani authors has a traditional character. According to him, the book that will bring the truth about Azerbaijan to academic circles and the public will serve as a visual aid for the comprehensive study of the history of the South Caucasus. V.Simileanu said he is ready to continue joint projects with Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in Romania, thanked to President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva for the realization of the humanitarian work carried out in Romania.


Secretary General of the Youth Organization of ruling Democratic Liberal Party’s department for Sector 6 of Bucharest Andrada Dinu said the present territory of Armenia is the historical land of Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghlig Garabagh conflict will soon be resolved in frame of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and justice will be reaffirmed.


Aide to Secretary General of International Fund for Cooperation and Partnership of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea Felicia Scoarta noted the book presented proves that the historical lands of Azerbaijan are under the occupation, expressing regret for ignorance of the resolutions UN, OSCE, CoE and other international organizations adopted on Daghlig Garabagh and other occupied territories. According to him, works such as “Irevan Khanate” are an alternative source of information on the history of the region. 


The book has been provided to Romanian governmental bodies, ministries, libraries, diplomatic missions in the country.


Other public and political figures of Romania also addressed the ceremony, newspapers such as “Hayat”, “Zaman”, “Anayurt”, “Ultima ora”, “Balcanii şi Europa” published in Romanian, English and Turkish languages covered the event.


Film “Irevan and its residents” made by “Azerbaijan” editorial board of “Lider” TV was shown in the ceremony.
