Heydar Aliyev Foundation published book ‘Honorary Cemetery’

Heydar Aliyev Foundation has elegantly published book ‘Honorary Cemetery’. It must be confessed there was a huge need for such a scientific and popular publication about the Honorary Cemetery, which is often visited by foreign guests, and the Foundation has satisfied this need.


The manual that contains materials in Azeri and English languages is opened with a brief article on the life of great leader Heydar Aliyev, which is pattern to generations. The publication includes a photo of the gravestone monumental complex of the genius son of our people in Honorary Cemetery.


Other materials are presented alphabetically in the encyclopedic manner. Of course, some of readers in Azerbaijan, in particular the reps of older and middle generations have information on many of those buried in Honorary Cemetery. But taking into consideration the young generation and foreign visitors coming to the country we must say with this initiative Heydar Aliyev Foundation has fulfilled very big educational and propaganda work.


Very brief and general information is available on the biography and creativity of prominent educators, writers and poets of Azerbaijan such Jalil Mammadguluzade, Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, Mammad Said Ordubadi, Hasan bey Zardabi, Suleiman Sani Akhundov, Jafar Jabbarly, Abdulla Shaig, Ali Nazmi, Samad Vurgun, Suleiman Rahimov, Rasul Rza, Vahid, Mirza Ibrahimov, Mehdi Huseyn, Suleiman Rustam, Ali Valiyev, Ismail Shykhly, Sabit Rahman, Jabir Novruz, Ilyas Efendiyev, Khalil Rza Uluturk, Mammad Araz, Nabi Khazri, Yusif Samadoglu and others.


Majority of those buried in Honorary Cemetery are figures of culture and art. The first place in this list is of course possessed by genius composer Uzeyir Hajibayov, founder of professional music, opera and ballet in East including Azerbaijan, who has brought big fame to our people, whose works have been translated into many languages and are in the golden fund of the world music culture.


Muslum Magomayev, Gara Garayev, Fikrat Amirov, Niyazi, Mikayil Abdullayev, Gamar Almaszade, Rashid Behbudov, Leila Badirbayli, Bashir Safaroglu, Bulbul, Jahangir Jahangirov, Said Rustamov, Vasif Adygozalov, Hagigat Rzayeva, Huseyngulu Sarabsky, Marziya Davudova, Fuad Abdurrahmanov, Mehdi Mammadov, Seyid Shushinsky, Alasgar Alakbarov, Shovkat Alakbarova, Tofig Guliyev, Suleiman Alasgarov, Kamil Aliyev, Mirzaga Aliyev, Huseyn Arablinsky, Sidgi Ruhulla, Mikayil Huseynov, Latif Karimov, Hokuma Gurbanova, Soltan Hajibayov, Azim Azimzade, Sara Gadimova, Leila Vakilova, Nasiba Zeynalova and others will always be remembered by our people. Their names and works will be living in the history of our culture and be sample to generations.


Brief information is available also about statesmen and public figures such Aziz Aliyev, Imam Mustafayev, Abulfaz Elchibay, Seyidjafar Pishavari, Shykhali Gurbanov, Afiyaddin Jalilov, Arif Heydarov, Kamran Huseynov, Alish Lambaransky, Suleiman Vazirov, labor heroes Gurban Abbasov (oil worker Gurban), Aga Nematulla, Basti Bagyrova, Ali Amirov and others.


Scholars of our nation such as academicians Zarifa Aliyeva, Heydar Huseynov, Yusif Mammadaliyev, Azad Mirzajanzade, Hasan Abdullayev, Ziya Bunyadov, Mammad Arif, Mustafa Topchubashov and others lifted the fame of our country and made contribution to scientific and technical progress with their inventions and valuable studies.


The people of Azerbaijan has always been proud of its heroes. Information provided on generals Akim Abbasov, Mahmud Abilov, Salahaddin Kazymov, Malik Maharramov, Huseyn Rasulbayov, Hajybaba Zeynalov and others who distinguished with heroism in WWII and peaceful construction period is useful for patriotic education of the youth.


As a result of the armed aggression started by Armenian nationalists in order to occupy Daghlig Garabagh (Nagorno-Karabakh), our historical land, tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis were killed in the battles for protection of our lands. Some of famous sons of Azerbaijan were victims of provocative attempts of Armenians. A group of them, consisted of former home affairs minister, major-general Mahammad Asadov, first state secretary of Azerbaijan, talented scholar Tofig Ismailov, general public prosecutor Ismat Gayibov, statesmen, deputy chairman of Ministers Soviet Zulfu Hajiyev, Vali Mammadov, popular publicist-journalist Osman Mirzayev and others, that were killed in the helicopter shot on November 20, 1991 near Garakand in Daghlig Garabagh were buried in Honorary Cemetery. Brief information on each of them is available in the book. 


Book on Honorary Cemetery gives a clear idea on tolerance and humanism of our people, its warm attitude on people of different religions and languages. Nations of various nations have been buried in Honorary Cemetery and the book contains information on them.


Book ‘Honorary Cemetery’ includes information on 242 persons.


Publication of the book in the high polygraphic level is the next sign of consistent actions and generous initiatives of the Foundation named after the great leader towards the progress of our nation and respect to its rich history and culture.
