The building of a historical mosque in Giyasly village of Aghdam was restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The Giyasly Mosque too is one of our historical and religious monuments subjected to Armenian vandalism in Garabagh. After the occupation of Aghdam by Armenian armed forces, the mosque was used as a stable to keep cattle, and it was subjected to serious damage, the roof cover and dome being completely demolished.
In 2022, after the Aghdam district was freed from the Armenian occupation, restoration works were launched in the Giyasly Mosque. While preparing the restoration layout, archive materials and video-graphic sources were used in order to maintain the mosque’s primary look. The spiral staircase preserved in the mosque’s interior hinted at the fact that there were twin minarets on its southern side. For this reason, new minarets were built on the southern wall of the mosque, based on the tradition.
Bent stone pillars were restored using special structures, while the stone arches and domes were rebuilt. The plastering that had lost its primary appearance and been basically destroyed was repaired, and the sanctuary which had fallen into disrepair was also restored.
Secondary buildings were constructed around the mosque.
