The Cultural Centre in Mardakan was put into operation in 1961. Having fallen into disrepair and catastrophic condition after long use, the palace was essentially repaired by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. On June 14, 2007, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the Mardakan Cultural Centre after reconstruction.

With 4641 m² general area, the palace features a 374-seat large hall and a 150-seat small hall, as well as lecture and dance halls. A state-of-the-art video-monitor installed and light and voice systems renewed on the large hall’s scene. The building was provided with a centralized air conditioning, alarm and fire protection systems.

Over 10 study groups are functioning at the Centre.

With a book fund of about 10 thousand books, the library of the cultural centre can serve over 6 to 7 thousand readers. And 40 to 50 people may, each day, avail themselves of the newly created electronic library’s service.
