The Baku Marathon was held on May 3, 2026, following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Along with Azerbaijan, citizens of the USA, Germany, the Great Britain, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Türkiye, Ukraine and other countries competed for victory.
People physically disabled as well as with Down syndrome also participated in the competition.
The Baku Marathon was organized at 42 kilometres, the full distance. The competition took the start at the State Flag Square, ending on the territory of Sea Breeze.
Ahmad Alkanoghlu, a sportsman from Türkiye, reached the finish line first among men. Vitaliy Shafar from Ukraine took the 2nd place, while Yrskeldi Akerov from Kirgizstan won the 3rd place.
In the competition among women, Elena Tolstikh from Russia won the 1st place, Anna Yusupova from Azerbaijan arrive 2nd at the finish line, while Shirin Akimbay from Kazakhstan took the 3rd place.
The winner of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded 6,000 AZN, 4,000 AZN and 2,000 AZN correspondently.
Awards were presented also on other nominations.
