Petrovsk

(Port-Petrovsk)

- an old name of Makhachkala, the capital of

Dagestan. Established in 1844 as a Russian fort

of Petrovsk, also known as Anji-Kala (the Dirt

Built Fort) among the highlanders. In 1857, the

settlement got the status of a municipality and

a port under the name of Petrovsk.

The capital of the Autonomous Soviet Socia-

list Republic of Dagestan throughout the USSR

period, Makhachkala today is the capital city of

the Republic of Dagestan, Russian Federation.

Qara (Qarah)

- a village in Guba Uyezd, incorporated into

Alikhanly Community, the Police Precinct of
