With a view to promoting Azerbaijan, its traditions and lifestyle in France, as well as bringing two nations with different cultures and lifestyle closer, and strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries, the “Azerbaijani Camp” was organized from 19 to 28 September 2014 on Saint Sulpice Square of Paris. Azerbaijan’s history and culture, national cuisine, folk art samples, tourism capacity, national music and dances have been presented in the camp. During the events, streets of Paris and public transport had been decorated with banners related to Azerbaijan.
On September 19, Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the “Azerbaijani Camp”.
Exhibition “Cultural Treasures of Azerbaijan – the Pearl of the Caucasus”
Exhibits related to Azerbaijan’s old and rich history, its culture, including copper items, lattices, national garments of Azerbaijan, national music instruments, centuries-old Azerbaijani carpets weaved with marvellous patterns have been demonstrated at the exhibition.
Exhibition “Nizami Ganjavi”
Materials related to Azerbaijani poet and thinker genius Nizami Ganjavi, who lived-in the 12th century, archaeological finds – coins, jewellery, domestic items – related to that period, reproductions of miniatures drawn by medieval Azerbaijani artists, china dishes with miniatures reflected on, carpets and batiks made on the basis of the themes of the poems included in “Khamsa” have been demonstrated at the exhibition.
Exhibition “France through Azerbaijani artists eyes”
Works by artists Khalida Safarova and Kamil Najafzadeh were presented at the exhibition. The exposition with over 50 works was devoted to France.
In a fair arranged in the camp, our cuisine – various sweets, wines, juices, mineral water, jams, dried fruits, different tea types have been presented, folk art samples – carpets, copper items, wood engraving, batiks (painting on silk), miniatures etc. were displayed. In a restaurant arranged in the camp, various traditions and contemporary Azerbaijani dishes were presented. Visitors of the camp gained a chance to get various publications of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the French and English languages. Within the framework of the project, presentation of “Baku-2015” First European Games took place and the “Travel to Azerbaijan” tourism exhibition organized.
In the exhibition-fair, which continued for ten days, Azerbaijani masters of art performed with various concert programs. The Sate Dance Ensemble, “Natig” Rhythm Group, State Popular Music Instruments Ensemble, Old Music Instruments Ensemble and other music groups performed Azerbaijan’s classic, jazz and mugham art, and our national dances were demonstrated. In the camp was also organized performances of rope-dancers and athletes.
