Meeting with the chairperson of the Azerbaijan-Italy Friendship Group in the Italian Senate
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva met, September 29, a delegation led by Chairperson of the Azerbaijan-Italy Friendship Group in the Italian Senate Mauro Maria Marino, who are on a visit to our country to participate in the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
The tolerant environment dominating in our country was talked about at the meeting, and it was noted that Roman Pontiff Francis will undertake a trip to Azerbaijan in a few days. It was underscored that representatives of all religions jointly participate in holidays celebrated in our country, and that this may be a message to the society to prevent some stereotypes existing in the world. Mehriban Aliyeva brought to attention that the Azerbaijan-Italy relations are of exemplary nature, and the Foundation she has been heading has participated in the preservation and restoration of cultural monuments in Italy.
Thanking for this support, the guests said this kind of projects serve to strengthening of the bilateral relations. They proposed fraternization of the ancient city of Matera, which has been announced to be Europe’s cultural capital in 2019, with Icherisheher.
Mehriban Aliyeva, appreciating this proposals as a good initiative, said such steps would create opportunities for building relations between regions.
