Memorial ceremony was held due to the 18th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy by the Romania Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the country.
Victims of Khojaly genocide was honored to the minute of silence.
Assessing Khojaly tragedy as an unforgettable and bloody page in the history of Azerbaijan, Ambassador Eldar Hasanov talked of horrible consequences of the massacre committed by Armenians, noting memory of the genocide victims is honored in a number of countries.
Head of Romania Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Igbal Hajiyev, Chairperson of Romanian Muslim Tatar Turks Democratic Organization for Bucharest, author of a poem on Khojaly Kiyaseddin Uteu, head of youth group that visited Azerbaijan last November due to support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Chairperson of Youth Parliament of Bucharest 2nd Sector Aleksandra Dobra, Chairperson of Bucharest Writers Association Horia Girbea and others talked about Khojaly tragedy.
The participants were also informed of the international campaign ‘Justice for Khojaly’ initiated by General Coordinator of the OIC Youth Forum on Intercultural Dialogue Mrs. Leila Aliyeva. Signing of the petition to be addressed in frame of the campaign to the world leaders on recognition of Khojaly tragedy as a crime committed against the humanity has ended.
Attendees of the memorial ceremony were familiarized with booklets from series ‘Realities of Garabagh’ developed by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, books ‘Khojaly genocide’, ‘Khojaly tragedy’, published in Romanian language, ‘Armenian myth. Armenian extremism: Reasons and History’, ‘Armenian (appropriated) folk tales’.
Participants saw art exhibition ‘Khojaly in the Eye of Children’ and photo exhibition showing the horrors of the tragedy.
It was said in the event, Horia Girbea, Chairperson of Bucharest Writers Association, author of poem ‘Bones in Guba’ dedicated to the mass graveyard in Guba, posted article about Khojaly tragedy on influential publication Luceafarul. Personal Internet page of Girbea contains information on Khojaly genocide and the link on signing the petition on the Internet page of the international campaign ‘Justice for Khojaly’.
Press release the Embassy made on Khojaly tragedy was sent to the Romanian parliament, public bodies, embassies and international organizations in Romania, NGOs.
Romanian mass media widely covered the event, newspapers ‘Replika’, ‘Hayat’, ‘Zaman’, ‘Ultima Ora’ and ‘Anayurt’ posted articles dedicated to Khojaly genocide, photographs showing the atrocities of the tragedy.
Members of Romania-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, Azerbaijan-Romania Culture and Youth Association, Romania-Azerbaijan Industry and Trade Chamber, employees of Romania Office of SOCAR, former and acting senators of Romania, MPs, Azeris living and studying in Romania, reps of Turk-Tatar community, diplomatic corps, NGOs and mass media were present in the ceremony.
