Heydar Aliyev Foundation disseminates the truth about Khojaly genocide around the world

Since its establishment, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has attached a special significance to the cause of informing the international community about Azerbaijan`s realities, Armenian aggression against the country and the essence of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Speaking to the presentation ceremony of the booklets "Realities of Karabakh" last year, President of the Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva said: "Today, the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh problem is Azerbaijan`s most painful problem. This is the most important task our country is facing today. Today, like thousand years ago, the greatest injustice and the greatest tragedy for every nation is aggression against it and occupation of its lands.

The people of Azerbaijan have been facing such injustice for already 17 years. As a result of the Armenia`s military aggression, 20 percent of our lands were occupied, more than 20.000 people were killed and more than 50.000 became disabled. Over 1 million people were ousted from their homes, and have been living for ten years as refugees and internally displaced. Armenia pursued the policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis.

Rights of over a million of our fellow countrymen were violated. The Khojaly genocide, which is the crime against the whole humanity, is the most terrible tragedy in Azerbaijan`s history of 20th century. All these realities, all this truth is our most painful problem, with which we had to enter the 21st century.

The cause of bringing all these realities, facts, and the true reasons and consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the notice of the international community, as well as exposing lie and fabrications disseminating by the Armenian diaspora, has always been the most important part of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s activities."

The Foundation`s purposeful work in this direction began in 2005 with creating of the web portal "Azerbaijan". The huge database of the portal included the facts about the Karabakh war, Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan, brutalities towards local population in the occupied territories, and barbaric destruction of historical monuments of architecture. Now, the portal also represents a lot of information and photos reflecting the massacre committed by Armenian aggressors in February of 1992 in Khojaly, the 15th anniversary of which we are marking now.

The booklets "Realities of Karabakh", published by the Foundation, also include detailed information about the Khojaly genocide, consequences of the Armenia`s aggression, and anti-Azerbaijan activities of Armenian terrorist groups. They were published in English, French, Russian, German and Hungarian languages, and disseminated in many countries. Currently, translation of the collection into other languages is in progress.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has started a new project, which includes conducting in Russia, Turkey, France, Hungary, Romania, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Czechia, Sweden and Georgia a series of events concerning the massacre committed by the Armenian armed forces in Khojaly.

The commemoration ceremonies to be held in foreign countries will begin with demonstration - in English, Russian and Turkish languages - of the film "Khojaly massacre" prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Participants in the events will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with photos and other materials depicting atrocities committed by Armenian chauvinists in Khojaly, as well as exposition of selected paintings participated in the competition "Khojaly in the eyes of children" which the Foundation conducted in schools of general education and children`s homes.

In frame of these actions distribution of booklets "Realities of Karabakh" among wide range of community is scheduled. Such kind of events directed to formation of public opinion will provide fair and correct information on Khojaly genocide to residents of Moscow, Berlin, Strasbourg, Brussels, Bucharest, Geneva, Ankara, Istanbul, Paris, Prague, Lidice, Tbilisi and other cities.

Currently, the work to attract foreign mass media to cover the actions is underway.
