Medications and New Year gifts presented to the diabetes-affected children

The ceremony was held at Baku Main Medical Department to present the medications and New Year gifts to the diabetes-affected children. Head of the Department Leila Seyidmammadova said the philanthropic action was organized for the second time by initiative of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, member of Milli Majlis, and expressed thanks to the First Lady of the country for this humanist attitude. In the action the insulin and special anesthetic syringe-pens were granted to 217 ill children registered in dispenser of Baku medical institutions.


According to Health Ministry of the republic, there are 59 thousands of diabetes-affected persons in the country and 18 thousands of them suffer from the painful insulin-dependent form of this disease. At the moment there are 444 children and 298 teens are diabetes-affected in Azerbaijan. Law `On state care to diabetes-affected persons` was adopted in 2004 in Azerbaijan, which is the first among CIS countries and was recommended by the proposal of CIS Parliamentary Assembly as model for the parliaments of the countries of the Commonwealth. 45 billion AZM have been allocated from 2006 budget to fund this state program that will be implemented since the current year.
