A photo-exhibition entitled “17 Faces of Action” is inaugurated at the Heydar Aliyev Centre

On October 28, inauguration of a photo-exhibition entitled “17 Faces of Action” took place at the Heydar Aliyev Centre on the initiative of Tatyana Valovaya, the director general of the UN’s Geneva division, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Association of Swiss Women & Empowerment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, director general of the UN’s Geneva division Tatyana Valovaya talked about the process of realizing the photo-exhibition “17 Faces of Action”, noting that the exhibition embodied the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Azerbaijan is the first country to react to the initiative of holding a photo-exhibition under the title “17 Faces of Action”, therefore, the exhibition inaugurated today in Baku is unique and more symbolic. Very active in the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals, 17 Azerbaijani women have been closely participating in the formation of a fairer world. We are hopeful this initiative would be realized by other countries of the Organization of United Nations too. I want to thank Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the support provided” – said Tatyana Valovaya.

The project aims at supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, and contribute to the realization of 17 sustainable development goals. Declared by the UN in 2015 and joined also by Azerbaijan, the Sustainable Development Goals are comprised of 17 goals and 169 targets that would stimulate creation of significant possibilities for human development for the period of 15 years, as well as the sustainability of global advancement by protecting our planet.

The Sustainable Development Goals put a wide spectrum of social needs, including education, social insurance and employment possibilities, as well as combatting of climate changes and protection of the environment in the forefront. These goals and targets provide for putting an end to poverty in all forms and sizes for the sake of humanity, managing sustainable consumption and production for the sake of the world, meeting the needs of the present and future generations protecting our planet from destruction, supporting peaceful, just and free-from- discrimination societies that are free from threat and violence for the sake of peace etc..

Portraits of 17 Azerbaijani women living in various regions of Azerbaijan who have reached achievements in different fields supporting the sustainable development goals, as well as values, the history and contemporary development of our country are presented at the exhibition held at the Heydar Aliyev Centre in the sections “Success Story”, “Don’t Avoid Helping Others”, “A Symbol of Peace”, “Forward Only!” etc..

The project was first realized in Azerbaijan, and is expected to be held in 16 more countries worldwide in the course of 2022-2023. 17 women representing values and cultures of their countries, meeting the Goals of Sustainable Development will be chosen from each country. After the national exhibitions, an exhibition representing 17 women from 17 countries will be held at the Palace of Nations (Palais des Nations) in the city of Geneva in 2023.
