“Baku-Marathon-2018” to take place following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative

“Baku Marathon-2018” will take place on May 13, following the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative. Held under the slogan “Conquer the Wind”, the Baku Marathon will be organized for the third time in a consecutive fashion. 

 

Aiming to provide support to the development of sport, advocate healthy lifestyle and bring people together for benevolent deeds, the Baku Marathon-2018 Project’s exclusive partner is Azercell Telecom. The Marathon will be organized with support from the Seaside Boulevard Department and the Baku Olympic Stadium. The project will be implemented by Sport Marketing Group (SMG) Company.

 

Baku Marathon-2018 will cover a distance stretching for 21 kilometres, from the State Flag Square to the Baku Olympic Stadium.

 

Anybody over 16 may join the Marathon, having been registered beforehand. Those wishing to participate in the competition may apply to the registration points at trade centres of Baku (“28 Mall”, “Gənclik Mall”, “Port Baku Mall”) or the website (www.baku.marathon.az) of the Baku Marathon-2018 from March 7 to May 5. To get registered for the Marathon, you will be required to fill in the registration form, provide a copy of your identity card (students will have, additionally, to submit a copy of their student’s pass) and pay the amount required for participation.

 

Individuals wishing to participate in the Marathon will pay a fee in the amount of 20 Manats. Those joining as a corporate (at least 5 participants should be from the company) will pay 100 Manats for each participant. Since the costs associated with the participation of students are covered by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, students will pay no fee at the time of registration.

 

Funds collected during the Baku Marathon–2018 will be directed to the project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation associated with children deprived of parental care.

 

Awarding ceremony of the Baku Marathon-2018 will be in two categories. Men and women participants of the marathon will compete for 3 places. In each of the men and women categories, the winner of the 1st place will receive 3,000 Manats, with the second and third places being awarded 2,000 and 1,000 Manats correspondingly, and each of them will be honoured with medals, presents and certificates.

 

Along with the above-mentioned awards, winners of the places 4 to 10 in each of the categories will be presented valuable gifts. Moreover, organizers of the marathon will present certificates to all marathon participants and volunteers who have provided support in the organization of the competition.

 

Over 20 thousand participants had been registered for the marathons carried out in 2016 and 2017 in Baku. Held with participation of Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, these competitions were joined also by foreigners residing and working in Azerbaijan, representatives of the embassies of Spain, France, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Czech Republic, Mexico etc. in Azerbaijan, as well as representatives of BP Azerbaijan, United Aid For Azerbaijan (UAFA) of the Great Britain. Tourists from USA, Austria, Germany, the Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, France, Russia, Poland, Iran, Ukraine, Georgia, Kenia and other countries too participated in the half-marathons. As the project was welcomed by citizens in the regions, a half-marathon was also organized in Ganja city on 17 September 2017.
