High School for Girls in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan

A severe earthquake causing heavy human loss and destructions happened in Pakistan on October 8, 2005. Covering over half of the country, the natural disaster left heavy destructions in Islamabad, Lahore, in particular in the Town of Muzaffarabad.

Background on the territory of Rara, Muzaffarabad

Town of Muzaffarabad is 162 km away from Islamabad, Pakistan. The earthquake rendered a school in the territory of Rara, Muzaffarabad quite useless. Children were obliged to take lessons in tents and outdoor because of dangerous conditions in classrooms.

Information on the school building

The school building constructed on the initiative of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, replaced the school rendered unsuitable by strong earthquake of October 2005 with a new one.

Built for short time as part of the project totaling 750,000 USD, the school owns 10 special classrooms, laboratories, subject cabinets, library, computer room and sports ground meeting the modern standards. Total area of the school is about 2000 sq.m.

Located in a difficult mountainous relief, the school has been supplied with equipment admitting a high-level education. The school will be attended by more than 500 pupils. Heydar Aliyev Foundation has supplied the school with visual aids, also publications about Azerbaijan.

The new school building constructed in Pakistan by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which attaches a special importance to the development of education, is the first educational center the Foundation built in a foreign country in the framework of “Support to Education” Project.
