Vagif’s Poetry Days are launched in Shusha

Vagif’s Poetry Days started in Shusha, Azerbaijan’s cultural capital, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Culture Ministry and the Writers Union of Azerbaijan, July 14.

With its forty-year history, the Vagif’s Poetry Days are being held for the 2nd time after Shusha was liberated from the occupation.

The first event to be held in the framework of the Vagif’s Poetry Days, which were attended by persons of culture and art, members of the Writers Union of Azerbaijan, young authors, poets and war veterans, was a book exhibition arranged before the Garabagh Hotel.

Books by over a hundred writers and poets are displayed at the exhibition. Presentation of books of some writers took place at the book exhibition. In the second half of the day, an official opening of the event will take place and a concert-show presented.

Vagif’s Poetry Days will end on July 15.

On January 14, 1982, inauguration of the Molla Panah Vagif’s mausoleum and the Poetry House took place with participation of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the people of Azerbaijan. In the framework of this event, national leader Heydar Aliyev ordered to hold Vagif’s Poetry Days. A unique event in the history of the modern Azerbaijani literature, the Vagif’s Poetry Days used to start from Gazakh, the poet’s birthplace, and end on Shusha’s magnificent Jydyr Plain, since that time until 1991.

After the city of Shusha was liberated from the Armenian occupation by our victorious Army under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Vagif’s Poetry Days started to be held again on its homeland – in the cultural capital.
